Google Keywords and Twitter Keywords

Keywords on Google Verses Twitter

I realized that there is a fundamental difference between keyword strategy on Google as opposed to Twitter.

Whereas on Google you want to position yourself to be found by the potential reader when he “types in” that which he is “looking for”, on Twitter the person enters in a description about himself, how he views himself.

Take, for example, if you are marketing cheap advertising. In Google you would position yourself on the keyword cheap advertising in order to be found by the person who goes and looks for cheap advertising. But in Twitter your potential customers are not going to be found on the keyword cheap advertising. Rather the Twitter search, which is basically a search for people, is how they describe themselves. Someone looking for cheap advertising is not going to call himself Cheap Advertising. You have to define your target market and go after them. Maybe Home Business or Internet Marketing.

Get the idea?

  3. Hi Boruch,

I love the subject of keyword research, but i never realized that you would relate it to social networking, his is a very good point Boruch, thanks for bringing this to my attention!

  4. Thank you Ed for your comment.

You talk about “social networking“. If your activity in the social scene is networking, then if you want targeted networking, keywords cannot be ignored.

    All the best,

    Boruch

  5. Hi Boruch, you’ve raised a good point. If you enter the keywords in your twitter bio would that show up on the search engines?

  6. Hi Barry,

Regarding search engines like google I don’t know, not yet. But if you put the keyword in your name, or the user name, then it will come up in the internal Twitter search. Example – click Find People, and type in “marketing” or some other keyword. You will get all those with marketing in their user name or name. To convince you that that second thing is the name, do it again and type “Harold”, you will see that it is indeed the name. (Or type in “Boruch” and help a poor soul who’s trying to pierce the 2000 limit lol).

Additionally, many Twitter applications search on the twits, like TweetAdder and so forth. So there you will get everyone with “marketing” or “Harold” in their tweets.

    Best,

    Boruch
